(New York, NY; Washington, DC) June 23, 2022 - In response to today’s Supreme Court Ruling on New York State Rifle and Pistol Association vs. Bruen, Amalgamated Bank has issued the following statement:
Today’s Supreme Court ruling gutted New York State’s gun safety laws by forcing the state to issue concealed carry permits over the objection of law enforcement and other advocates. This decision allows licensed individuals to freely carry weapons, including on the New York City subway and commuter trains. Amalgamated Bank believes that permissive gun regulations like this only fan the flames of the gun violence epidemic and we reject the notion that concealed carry permits enhance public safety.
We will continue to use our voice to advocate for common sense laws that answer the call of millions of Americans who want to feel safe from gun violence.
Amalgamated Bank has been at the forefront of supporting gun violence prevention. In addition to not lending or investing money in gun or ammunition manufacturers or distributors, Amalgamated Bank offers impact portfolios that screen out investments in guns and ammunition.
